Born in Estonia and based in Berlin, Mariia's journey into photography began with a collection of shadow photographs captured on the phone - a habit that grew into an Instagram series, which later shifted into film photography.

For her, film photography is about focusing on the inner feeling of balance and 'rightness' in the very moment of taking a photo. She does not edit the photos, so whatever light and colours come up can be read as a message from that moment when she said 'yes' to her inner feeling. She likes to explore strange symmetries, dreams and magical realism, and shadows - both as physical phenomena and as reflections of the unconscious.
